June 2019 Meeting Recap

Hi there South Bay Quilters

We had a busy June with both our guild meeting as well as hosting quilter Chawne Kimber who came to present a trunk show, and teach two workshops.

At our June meeting, we reminded members who are participating in our  notions swap that they would be due at our July meeting. (July 9) We will do our exchange then.

We also voted on the color palette for the next Aurora Borealis – a gorgeous, galaxy inspired palette.

We also discussed the 2020 QuiltCon Charity quilt and design contest. A different take on how we will decide on the design, we are having a contest and challenging our guild members to submit an original quilt design. The MQG has decided that this years’ theme is Quilts with Text and the color palette is grey scale. Further details can be found on the MQG Website HERE.  Though the MQG has called for grey scale, we will allow 2% of color in your design. You can design whatever you like, using words and text. Your imagination is your only limit. After submitting all the designs, the guild as a whole will vote on the quilt design they want to make.

Of course, we had a great showing of our members’ work at show and tell.

Later that week, we had the privilege of having Chawne Kimber present a talk and trunk show for our guild as well as teach two workshops.  Thank you Chawne for your bold and raw, honest work. Our guild members had such a great time learning Tiny Piecing as well as improv hand quilting.
