December Recap: A lot to look forward to!

Wow, last meeting of 2012! How time does fly!

Rebecca and Pam at Show & Tell

Firstly, I would like to thank our December visitor Ann for joining us. We hope to see you again in January!

Next, we want to remind everyone to enter into the PVQA quilt show! We had a great turn-out last year, and want to have an even better modern showing this year. The entry form is now available online here, making entering even more convenient. Remember to put Group display into the category section. We hope to be an ongoing part of this wonderful annual show, and are so thankful to the PVQA for this opportunity to exhibit and view a wide variety of quilts. The deadline for entry is Jan. 14th.

As for the big events within our own guild…The Madrona Road challenge is officially underway! If you missed the meeting, contact Tina to sign up. Since the prints are free to you, and provided by both our own guild funds and Michael Miller, we ask that you are committed to completing your quilt around Jan. 31, and keep the modern aesthetic in mind. That being said, there is still fabric left to be given out, and there are no size restrictions to these quilts. The more the merrier!

We hope to have a check-in with all participants at the January meeting where we’d like to see significant progress on all Madrona Road quilts. That being said, we will be having a Sew Day at the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz Countyon January 12th from 10am-10pm (12 hours!!!). Please RSVP with Karen or TIna if you plan on joining us. This event is free, but we are accepting $5 donations to help offset the cost. You can use this time to work on your challenge quilts uninterrupted if you can’t get much progress done by Jan 8th.

Of course, the Sew Day can be used for any project you like, including our next swap, the tote bag swap! We will be completing the QuiltCon Charity quilt as well.

The Tote swap is a flickr-based secret swap centered around this tote bag tutorial from Skip to my Lou. Inspiration can be found on Mouthy Stitches. Participation forms have been sent our via e-mail, as have recaps of Anne and Karen’s amazing Flickr tutorial. If you have not received these e-mails, comment below, or contact a guild officer. The finished tote is due at the March meeting.

And of course there was sew and tell! Photos can be seen on our Flickr photo pool.

Also on our flickr group is a great list of deadlines/important dates in case it was overwhelming at the meeting (thanks Karen!) You can view that here.

Again, we encourage participation in the Flickr and blogging quilting communities. The internet is the hub of the Modern Quilting movement. There is limitless inspiration to be found, and international interaction among quilters.

And one last big reminder that the January meeting will be held on January 8th, not the first.

Happy Holidays everyone! See you in 2013!
