February Meeting Recap: In Love With Modern Quilting

True love is a bouquet of freshly cut fat-quarters… or something like that!

Welcome to the SBAMQG Aileen!  We hope to see you in the months to come!

At the second guild meeting of 2013, we excitedly introduced our new guild lending library! Do you have some great quilting/sewing books that you’re willing to share with others? Want to try books before you buy them? Then partake in our new lending service!

Books can be lent from member to member between meetings. Both the lender and lendee will receive “receipts” of the transaction, and the guild officers will also keep records of monthly lending.
In the next few weeks look for a spreadsheet being sent via e-mail that will serve as a lending list of books and which guild member owns them.
We will also keep a hard-copy record of books/magazines available that will be at each guild meeting.

So if you have a book you’d like to lend out, contact Julia or any other guild officer, and we’ll get it on our library list.

Also sent out via e-mail was an e-vite to our next Sew Day on March 22 (a Friday). It will be at the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County in Aptos again from 9-5. All paid members should have received the invitation.

We had a wonderful Sew and Tell consisting of a lot of Madrona Road finishes. You can see all of our guild’s entries on Tina’s MR Challenge Wrap-up post and on our Flickr Group. And don’t forget to check out all of the beautiful finished entries on the MR finished projects Flickr group. Congrats to all of the winners, and everyone else who completed their project. It’s a beautiful collection of items!

And of course there were some splendid non-Madrona Road quilts to show off as well:

Also, it’s worth mentioning that our host Sue Dee’s is looking for teachers for sewing and quilting classes, and are also running a tea-party themed challenge of their own for the upcoming Bay Area Shop Hop. Contact them for more information.

Also, one of SBAMQG’s most colorful quilters, Pam Rocco is having a show at SueDee’s in March! There will be a tea party reception for the show on Saturday March 9th from 2-4.

And speaking of March…

The tote swap is due in March for those members who entered, Make sure you know your secret partner’s preferences, and follow the guidelines outlined on Flickr.

See you March 5th at 6:30 at SueDee’s!

I was blessed to have my raffle ticket pulled for your modern basket at the Quilt show. I have just begun to quilt and modern quilting is so bold it fascinates me and draws me in. My husband actually dropped our raffle ticket in for your basket because he said, “it has saw blades in it”. What he saw was a rotary needle holder. Anyway, the basket is fabulous. Two beautiful books full of ideas, a cool pattern, bright fabrics, a mod tote, and a much needed key fob. I wish your meetings were not so far away or I would join, I live in Monterey and belong to the Pacific Grove Quilting Guild. I will be keeping my eye out for modern quilters closer. Thank you all for your generosity. Best wishes, Jeanne
