SBAMQG Logo Blocks

Tamlin Matthews, 2023

Pattern made for 4” blocks with ¾” strips between for a final block of 14” x 4½” (13½” x 4” when sewed into a project with ¼” seams)

The pattern was designed on 8.5” x 11” paper and includes a 1 inch square for sizing

I used the app A Quilty Solid to match logo colors via hex codes, but you do not need to stick to this palette.

Blue/Green block

Off-white triangles – F1EBDB – Pantone Vanilla Ice – Kona Oyster

Triangle 1 – 26AAE1 – Pantone 2995 C – Kona Stratosphere

Triangle 2 – 14A89E – Pantone Ceramic – Kona Jade Green

Triangle 3 – 0C9445 – Pantone Fern Green – Kona Clover

Triangle 4 – 8CC640 – Pantone Green Flash – Kona Botanical

Since the colors don’t repeat, you can use “half square triangle” or flying geese (cut in half) method for this block, if you want an extra block.

  • If you just want to make one block, cut a 3” right triangle from each color fabric and four 3” right triangles from off-white.
  • Stitch a color triangle to an off-white triangle with a ¼” seam along the long edge of the triangles. Iron with seams open to help decrease bulk in the center of the block.
  • To trim the block, align a ruler along the 45 degree seam of the triangles and cut the off-white/color square down to 2¾”.
  • Repeat for the 3 additional colors.
  • Stitch the top two color blocks together, ensuring the color triangle is in the right orientation, and iron seams open.
  • Repeat to stitch the bottom color blocks together.
  • Stitch the top two blocks to the bottom two blocks. Iron seams open.
  • Square up block to 4½”

Pink/Purple block

Block 1a – D82992 – Pantone Pink C – Kona Brt Pink

Block 2b – 9F2063 – Pantone Festival Fuschia – Kona Cerise

Block 3b – 92288F – Pantone 512 C – Kona Dark Violet

Grey blocks – CCC9C7 – Pantone Wind Chimes – Kona Shadow

You can either use paper piecing or cut out rectangles of each color.

For the paper piecing method, follow:

  • Stitch 1a to 1b to make strip 1
  • Stitch 2a to 2b to 2c to make strip 2
  • Stitch 3a to 3b to make strip 3
  • Iron seams open
  • Stitch strips in order from left to right: 4 – 1 – 5 – 2 – 6 – 3 – 7

Alternatively, you can cut out the size rectangles listed, but follow the same stitch order as the paper piecing method.

  • Square up block to 4.5”

Orange/Yellow block

Block 1 – FFDE17 – Pantone Yellow C – Kona Citrus

Block 2 – FCB041 – Pantone Banana – Kona Cheddar

Block 3 – EF3F37 – Pantone Warm Red C – Kona Coral

Block 4 – F1592A – Pantone Red Orange – Kona Tiger Lily

Block 5 – F7941F – Pantone Bright Marigold – Kona Nacho Cheese

You can either use paper piecing, or improv an approximate shape of this block.

For both methods, follow the stitch order of:

  • Stitch 1 to 2
  • Stitch 3 to the 1-2 block
  • Stitch 4 to the 3-2-1 block
  • Stitch 5 to the 4-3-2-1 block
  • Square up to 4.5” block

Completing logo

Use two 1¼” x 4½” strips to connect the 3 blocks together
