August Meeting Recap

Our apologies for the VERY delayed August-October meeting posts.  As mentioned in our July recap, Julia our elected Secretary moved away and the blog  duties have shifted around a bit, but hopefully we will be on track from now on!

We had a great meeting at Harts Fabric and were thrilled to have FIVE new visitors that became members.  Welcome, Mary, Barbara, Julie, Betsy & Kelly!  We all can’t wait to get to know you better!

At the beginning of the meeting we had a bit of business to cover, including our plans to join the Modern Quilt Guild parent organization in January 2014 and discussed what all of that means for members.  To prepare for the transition we will be holding officer elections at December’s meeting and nominations at the November meeting.  Bylaws will also be voted on at the December meeting.

President Tina gave a very informative talk on putting a modern twist on traditional techniques and blocks.  She shared many books giving examples of mixing old techniques with the new and using them a new, fresh & modern way.

To send Julia, our exiting secretary, away in style members made a quilt of course!  The design is called Churn Dash and made out of Julia’s current favorite, Briar Rose by Heather Ross!

e are pretty certain she LOVED IT!  Thank you to all that made this such a special gift for her to carry with her to remember all of us by!

Partners for our negative space challenge were revealed and so many wonderful creations were exchanged.  Here are just a few highlights, but be sure to check them all out on the SBAMQG Flickr group!

Show an tell was stellar as usual!

A few members have been making great progress on the guild’s very informal/no-deadline Sparkle Punch Quilt along too!
